The book is a collection of essays on selected songs that Hornby relates to certain moments in his life — his personal soundtrack so to speak.

I’ve been a Nick Hornby fan ever since I read High Fidelity and was blown away by what I consider to be one of the best “pop” novels ever written. I use the term “pop” loosely, as Hornby discusses music from several genres. A radio station that used to be reserved exclusively for songs my mum liked.
Music is such a personal experience that, bornby the course of writing about 31 songs, one is bound to alienate some and endear oneself to others, possibly at the same time.
But this isn’t really about those particular songs. Late for the Sky Jackson Browne. I don’t even know where to begin with that one. And secondly, he has a writing style that’s both candid and eloquent, serviceably invisible.
I fill like it was something he just did to fulfill an obligation. It happened at my desk next to the window in the apartment on Ridge Road.
That said, this is best book I’ve read by him since High Fidel I’ve been a Nick Hornby fan ever since I read High Fidelity and was blown sonbgook by what I consider to be one of the best “pop” novels ever written.
Songbook – The McSweeney’s Store
I’m glad I could read it in a day. It’s almost like an songobok invitation to introspection. It is not exactly an astonishing venture from him; in fact, it seems happily inevitable, a return to the non-fiction with which he first made his name. I love his general lack of pretension about his music tastes, and that I wavered between giving this book three or four stars, but decided on three because of several essays in the middle that I didn’t find particularly interesting and could have done without.

Hornbt injects his trademark humor into the writing and although I did try and listen to a few of the tracks on youtube, they are not my thing.
When was the last time you listened to Pet Sounds? It matters very much. There’s a nerd, and a poet within him.
I have known and loved these songs in my own way for years. Sujata Yes it is the same book: Each chapter talks about a song that has some sort of meaning for him.
